Mengzhou spacecraft successfully completes in-flight abort test during maximum dynamic pressure phase

China Manned Space AgencyMengzhou & Lanyue Lunar System

Following a pad abort test in June 2025, Mengzhou was mated to a Long March 10 test stage in February 2026 and successfully tested its launch escape system during the maximum dynamic pressure phase of ascent. The test verified the crew module's ability to separate and recover safely if an abort were needed during the most severe aerodynamic loads of launch.

  • The max-Q abort test is one of the final verification steps before crewed flights can begin.
  • Mengzhou is cleared to proceed toward its first uncrewed orbital test docking with Tiangong.
  • Successfully tested systems include the crew module separation mechanism, parachutes, and recovery systems.
