Medicare's new code L5827 for electromechanical knees takes effect for the Power Knee

After a request from Medicare contractor Palmetto GBA, the HCPCS committee created code L5827 for knees with electromechanical swing and stance control, replacing three codes written for fluid-controlled knees. It applies to powered knees delivered from 1 April 2025; total Medicare payment is unchanged.

• L5827 replaces L5828, L5845 and L5848 and is billed with L5856 and L5859
• Fee schedule averages $7,242.27, equal to the three old codes combined
• WillowWood's Intuy Knee and Bionic M's Bio Leg were reclassified too
