JUPITER supercomputer reaches full exascale performance of 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second

Forschungszentrum JülichJUPITER

Forschungszentrum Jülich's JUPITER supercomputer achieved full operational status in June 2025, becoming Europe's first exascale system. Integrating around 24,000 NVIDIA GH200 superchips with a hybrid architecture of GPU and CPU modules, JUPITER immediately ranked 4th globally on the TOP500 list. The system consumes 15 MW entirely from renewable energy sources.

  • JUPITER's hybrid architecture combines ~6,000 GPU nodes with NVIDIA GH200 superchips and over 1,300 CPU nodes with SiPearl Rhea processors.
  • Peak performance reaches 1 exaflop per second in double precision; 40-90 exaflops in mixed precision for AI workloads.
  • The system is the world's most energy-efficient exascale supercomputer, with waste heat recovered for district heating across the Forschungszentrum campus.
  • JUPITER supports research in climate simulation, materials science, quantum computing validation, and training of large AI models.
