ISRO completes three qualification tests on Gaganyaan crew module systems, including CSU-2 separation

ISROGaganyaan

ISRO said on 12 July 2026 that it had finished three qualification tests on crew module systems for the Gaganyaan crewed spaceflight programme. The tests covered the capsule's uprighting system, the separation of an umbilical connector between the crew module and service module, and the apex cover that protects the parachutes.

  • The uprighting test used a stored cold-gas system to inflate the flotation unit that rights the capsule after splashdown.
  • CSU-2, the connector that links crew module and service module, separated cleanly from a simulated crew module, and the panel and its interfaces stayed structurally stable.
  • The apex cover test checked the structure through the moment the cover separates before parachute deployment.
  • Qualification tests check one design against set loads and conditions; ISRO's announcement does not give a launch date.
