Google launches Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image), its new default image model

Google released Nano Banana 2, built on Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, promising near-Pro image quality at Flash-tier speed and price. It rolled out at once across the Gemini app, Google Search, AI Studio and Vertex AI, and led the Arena and Artificial Analysis image leaderboards at launch while costing about half as much as rival top models.

  • Keeps up to 5 characters and 14 objects consistent across images.
  • Outputs from 512 px up to 4K, with new extreme aspect ratios such as 8:1 and 1:8.
  • Can look up Google web and image search results before drawing.
  • About $67 per 1,000 images, versus about $134 for Nano Banana Pro.
