General Motors announces eyes-off driving for Cadillac Escalade IQ in 2028; new centralized computing platform coming
GM CEO Mary Barra announced that Super Cruise will evolve into a Level 3 eyes-off semi-autonomous system starting on the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ. The next-generation system integrates LiDAR, radar and cameras with an independent safety controller. GM is also unveiling a new centralized computing platform launching in 2028 that unifies propulsion, steering, infotainment and safety across EVs and gas vehicles.
- Eyes-off (Level 3) debut on Cadillac Escalade IQ 2028; first to allow drivers to divert attention on pre-mapped highways.
- LiDAR, radar and camera fusion with dedicated safety controller for robust perception and fail-safe operation.
- Eyes-off initial availability: California and Nevada (currently legal states); may expand subject to regulation.
- New centralized computing platform (2028) unifies propulsion, steering, infotainment and safety on single high-speed core; AI assistant with Google Gemini integration launching next year.
