Freeform raises $14M from NVIDIA's NVentures and Boeing's AE Ventures for AI-controlled metal printing
Freeform, founded by ex-SpaceX engineers, raised $14 million from NVIDIA and Boeing's AE Ventures. Its metal printers watch the laser-melting process with high-speed cameras and adjust in microseconds using FPGAs, GPUs and machine learning, aiming to fix slow speed, inconsistent quality and high cost of metal 3D printing.
- Co-founders Erik Palitsch and TJ Ronacher worked as principal architect and lead analyst on SpaceX Merlin engines
- Tasso Lappas (former Velo3D CTO) joined as co-founder
- NVIDIA provides H100 compute hardware; Boeing offers supplier qualification guidance and purchase plans
- Company built largest metal additive dataset; serves aerospace, automotive, industrial and energy sectors
