European Commission opens investigation into Grok over sexualised manipulated images
After Grok's image tools were used to create sexualised images of real women and children without consent, regulators on several continents moved against X and xAI. The European Commission opened a formal probe on January 26, alongside UK, French, Indian and other actions; xAI had restricted image editing from January 14.
- UK Ofcom and the ICO opened their own investigations; Paris prosecutors searched X's office on Feb 3.
- Indonesia blocked Grok; Malaysia and the Philippines restored access after fixes.
- xAI limited image features to paying users and geoblocked revealing edits of real people where illegal.
