D-Wave agrees to acquire Quantum Circuits Inc. for $550M
D-Wave QuantumGate-model program
D-Wave agreed to buy Quantum Circuits, a developer of error-corrected superconducting gate-model qubits, for $550 million ($300M stock + $250M cash). The acquisition combines D-Wave's annealing expertise with gate-model technology, with systems planned for 2026 and an R&D center in New Haven led by transmon-qubit inventor Rob Schoelkopf.
- Gate-model systems expected in 2026; acquisition closing anticipated late January 2026.
- Rob Schoelkopf, inventor of transmon and dual-rail qubit technologies, becomes chief scientist of Quantum Circuits and leads Connecticut R&D hub.
