Cortigent (Vivani Medical subsidiary)Orion Visual Cortical Prosthesis
Cortigent presented results from a six-year Early Feasibility Study of the Orion Visual Cortical Prosthesis at the North American Neuromodulation Society annual meeting in January 2026. All devices remained operational with fewer than 4% of electrodes losing functionality over the six-year period.
- Six subjects implanted 2018-2019 completed study in March 2025 after six years of follow-up.
- All six subjects demonstrated improvement in detecting a small square on a computer screen and detecting motion across the visual field when the system was activated.
- Device reliability was high: 96% of electrodes remained functional at study conclusion.
- Next step is planning a larger pivotal clinical trial to seek FDA marketing approval.
