China tests DF-17 with hypersonic glide vehicle; glider flies about 1,400 km in 11 minutes
China ran two DF-17 tests in November 2017. In the first, from the Jiuquan launch centre, the hypersonic glide vehicle flew for about 11 minutes at roughly 60 km altitude and landed in Xinjiang about 1,400 km away, reportedly within metres of its target. US intelligence then expected the missile to be operational by 2020.
- Followed seven known experimental glide tests from 2014 to 2016.
- US intelligence put its range at 1,800-2,000 km.
- Derived from the DF-16 short-range missile.
