Blue Origin commits about $550 million to a Texas satellite manufacturing campus
Blue Origin plans a 1.3-million-square-foot campus in Hutto, Texas, to build spacecraft and ground hardware, with an investment of about $550 million. The site will make satellites for the planned TeraWave network and antennas for Project Quartz, its ground station network. Construction is due to start in early 2027.
- The campus will include cleanrooms, environmental test chambers and automated assembly lines.
- TeraWave is planned as a 5,408-satellite network in low and medium Earth orbit, offering up to 6 Tbps.
- Assembly lines are targeted to be running for the first TeraWave launches in late 2027.
- The 2,000-job figure comes from local development plans, not from Blue Origin itself.
- Jeff Bezos confirmed a $10 billion funding round on October 7, the company's first outside institutional capital; he said an IPO is possibly several years away.
