Alps supercomputer inaugurated in Lugano with 10,752 NVIDIA Grace Hopper superchips

ETH Zurich opened Alps at CSCS, an HPE Cray machine with 10,752 GH200 superchips aiming for about half an exaflop of peak performance. Its first phase had already placed 6th on the June 2024 TOP500.

• Cloud-style vClusters give each user community its own tailored system.
• MeteoSwiss uses it for higher-resolution forecasts over Switzerland's mountains.
• Paul Scherrer Institute named as an early user.
