Current obstacles

Market competitivenessMust match Starlink cost and capability in crowded market.
Operationalizing constellationRequires global ground stations and customer terminals.

Physics limits

Atmospheric dragThousands of satellites need reboosts against atmospheric drag, raising fuel and operational cost.
Debris riskCollision cascade could render orbits unusable for decades, limiting safe constellation density.

How it works

2 parts

Two shells

Orbital optimization

Two shells at different inclinations provide redundancy and optimized coverage.

Launch strategy

Multi-rocket capability

Long March variants place satellites by mass and orbital parameters.

Guowang megaconstellation, satellite internet, LEO

China SatNet, founded 2021, builds Guowang, a 13,000+ satellite constellation for global broadband. By September 2026, 234 satellites deployed across two orbital shells.

Guowang is a 13,000-satellite megaconstellation for global internet, competitive with Starlink.
234 satellites deployed by Sept 2026; 1,300 planned by 2029, 6,500 by 2032, full constellation by 2034.
Two-shell architecture at different orbital altitudes using Long March 5B, 6A, 8A and 12 rockets.
