Real-world variabilityLaboratory settings with fixed robot positions differ from home environments; robustness across variable tasks and clutter remains a challenge.
Continuous use fatigueSustained mental effort required to control robots may be cognitively fatiguing; maintaining performance during long sessions is under investigation.

Physics limits

Latency and real-time constraintsNeural decoding introduces latency (tens to hundreds of milliseconds); this delay can make fine motor tasks difficult, as the user cannot tightly couple visual feedback with control.
Electrode stabilityImplanted electrodes may lose signal quality over time, requiring periodic recalibration and potentially limiting long-term clinical viability.
