The brief
- Closed a $463M Series D in August 2025 led by SK Inc., and took full ownership of its Korean factory.
- SCC55 ships to 100+ battery and device makers, mostly for electronics and EV development.
- Its Moses Lake plant (BAM-2) hit delays, a July 2025 staff cut and January 2026 furloughs; full production expected in 2026.
Technical approach
A carbon sponge
It starts with a carbon particle full of tiny pores, each sized to hold silicon.
Silicon grown inside
Silane gas is broken down so silicon forms inside the pores. The carbon conducts electricity and leaves room for silicon to swell.
Handles like graphite
To a cell maker the powder looks like graphite, so it fits existing anode lines with no new equipment.

- Cycle life with lots of siliconPartially solved
Silicon swells up to about 300% when charging. Repeated swelling wears the cell out, so more silicon means shorter life.
- Cost versus graphiteActive research
Silane and its processing cost far more than graphite; the extra energy must justify a higher price.
