BeeHome 4 holds up to 10 colonies on standard Langstroth frames under a solar roof. It is small enough to move with an ordinary forklift for pollination season.
A scanner with cameras and grippers runs along rails, pulls out each frame and holds it in front of cameras. Onboard computers analyse the images.
Vision models spot mites, brood gaps and low food stores frame by frame. The system then feeds, ventilates or treats, and alerts the beekeeper through an app.
A heat chamber warms frames to a temperature varroa mites cannot survive but bees can, replacing chemical miticides that bees and honey absorb.
