Current obstacles

  • Doing chores on its ownHomes vary endlessly. Until the AI is reliable, remote operators fill in, which limits scale and raises privacy concerns.

Physics limits

  • Tendons stretch, rub and wearCable drives lose force to friction over every pulley and stretch under load, so joint positions drift. Cables fray with use and need replacing, unlike rigid gears.
  • Safe enough is weak enoughA robot light and compliant enough to be safe around children carries less and moves more gently. Strength and safety pull in opposite directions for any home robot.
  • Remote help is limited by lagSignals over the internet take tens of milliseconds each way. With that lag, a remote operator cannot react to slips during delicate contact, so teleoperation suits only slow tasks.

Tendons

Motors pull cables, like muscles

High-torque motors pull tendon cables that move the joints, keeping heavy parts near the body so the limbs stay light and soft.

Hands

25-joint hands

Each hand has 25 degrees of freedom, also tendon-driven, to grip household objects of many shapes.

Brain

Onboard AI plus remote help

NEO runs its own AI model. For chores it cannot do alone yet, a 1X operator can steer it remotely, with the owner's approval.

Body

Soft, quiet shell

A knitted suit and padding cover the frame, and it runs at about 22 dB, close to a quiet refrigerator.

NEO home humanoid

1X Technologies (formerly Halodi Robotics) is a Norwegian-American company building NEO, a soft humanoid for the home. Pre-orders opened in October 2025 at $20,000 or $499 a month. Remote human operators cover tasks its AI can't do yet.

  • First humanoid maker to take consumer pre-orders at scale: NEO at $20,000 or $499 a month.
  • A light, tendon-driven body puts safety around people ahead of strength.
  • Remote 'expert mode' lets a human take over when the AI can't, which raises privacy questions.
