Current obstacles

  • Dense packingStacking tight, stable walls of mixed boxes in a trailer needs fast planning and a careful touch.

Physics limits

  • Optimal truck packing can't be computedLoading boxes of unknown future sizes is an online 3D bin-packing problem, which is NP-hard even with full knowledge. Any real-time loader must accept good-enough, not perfect, walls.
  • Suction is capped by air pressureA suction cup holds at most about 10 N per square centimetre at perfect vacuum; worn or porous cardboard leaks. Heavy boxes need big cups or clamping, which cost space.
  • A trailer is a tight, hot workspaceA trailer is only about 2.5 m wide inside and can pass 50°C in summer. Arms, base and electronics must fit that box and shed heat without room to spare.

Arms

Two industrial arms as a pair

Two robot arms on a mobile base work together, handling boxes up to about 60 kg (132 lb) between them.

Planning

Foresight world model

A model trained on over 100 million robot actions predicts how each placement affects the wall of boxes, choosing spots for stability and density.

Touch

Force and touch sensing

Force control lets Mech press boxes into place and feel collisions, correcting its moves as it goes.

Base

Drives into the trailer

The base is compact enough to drive into a truck trailer and work its way from the nose to the doors.

About Dexterity

The team behind Mech

Dexterity

Truck-loading robots, Mech

Dexterity builds AI robots for logistics, such as loading and unloading trucks. In March 2025 it launched Mech, a mobile two-armed robot that lifts up to about 60 kg, and raised $95M at a $1.65B valuation.

  • Focuses on the hardest dock job: packing trucks fast and tight with mixed boxes.
  • Mech puts two industrial arms on a mobile base and lifts up to 132 lb (about 60 kg).
  • Total funding near $300M after the March 2025 round.
