Current obstacles

  • Competition from low-cost cobotsChinese cobot makers compete hard on price.

Physics limits

  • Contact limits cap speedA cobot must not hit a person harder than set pain and injury limits for each body part. Force grows with moving mass and speed, so cobots stay slower and lighter than caged robots.
  • Sensitive versus nuisance stopsDetecting a gentle bump means reading small force changes against the arm's own weight and motion. Set it too sensitive and it stops for nothing; too dull and it hits too hard.
  • Light arms bendCobot arms are light for safety, so links and joints flex under load. Precision drops as payload and reach grow.

How it works

3 parts

Sensing

Contact detection in the joints

Sensors in the arm detect unexpected force and stop it, so CRX arms can work beside people without a safety cage.

Teaching

Guide by hand, program on a tablet

Operators pull the arm to teach positions and arrange steps as icons on a tablet, with no robot code.

Range

One family, many sizes

CRX models run from the light CRX-3iA to arms carrying 25 kg or more, all on a compact Fanuc controller.
