Stage: Proto (2 of 5: Research → Proto → Pilot → Deploy → Scaling)
Updated: last update 2026-09-06, facts checked 2026-10-11
Goal: Give full-size pickup buyers electric driving without range worries when towing. About 145 miles on battery covers daily use, and a petrol generator refills the battery so long tows don't depend on finding chargers.
Status: Production at Sterling Heights reported for mid-April 2027 after repeated slips; price not yet set.
Next milestone: Start of production at Sterling Heights, Michigan, target Apr 2027 (slipped 30 months; originally Q4 2024)

## Milestones

## Upcoming events

- **Apr 2027**: Start of production at Sterling Heights, Michigan (slipped 30 mo)
- **Apr 2027**: Ram 1500 REV start of production (reported mid-April)

## Most important updates

- **6 Sep 2026**: Ram 1500 REV launch reportedly slips to mid-April 2027. A supplier memo reviewed by Automotive News puts the Ram 1500 REV's arrival in mid-April 2027, replacing earlier 2026 timing. - **12 Sep 2025**: Stellantis cancels the all-electric Ram 1500 pickup; the range-extended Ramcharger takes the REV name. Stellantis discontinued development of its full-size battery-electric Ram pickup, citing slowing demand for electric trucks in North America. ## Current obstacles

- **Powertrain rollout**: Suppliers say the 2027 slip is to smooth the launch of the 400-volt battery and motor set shared with Jeep's Grand Wagoneer REV.
- **Cost of two power sources**: It carries a big battery, two motors, an engine and a generator; Electrek expected a price near $75,000. Range, towing and price are not yet final.

## Physics limits

- **Towing multiplies energy use**: A heavy trailer adds drag and rolling resistance, so energy per mile rises steeply. A battery big enough for long tows would be too heavy and costly, which is why a generator rides along instead.
- **Converting fuel twice loses energy**: On generator power, fuel becomes electricity and then motion, with losses at each step, so on long trips efficiency is closer to a petrol truck than to an EV.

## How it works

### Drive: The engine never turns the wheels

Two electric motors drive the truck at all times. The 3.6-litre V6 only spins a 130 kW generator, so the truck always drives like an EV.

### Battery: 92 kWh pack for daily driving

Ram claimed about 145 miles on electricity alone, enough for most daily use, with DC fast charging at up to 145 kW.

### Range: Fuel as the backup for long tows

With a 27-gallon tank and a full charge, Ram claimed 690 miles, so long trailer trips don't depend on fast chargers along the route.
