Stage: Deploy (4 of 5: Research → Proto → Pilot → Deploy → Scaling)
Updated: last update 2026-07-23, facts checked 2026-10-11
Goal: Put camera-based safety features, and then hands-free highway driving, into mass-market cars at low cost. One cheap chip running all the sensors replaces several control boxes, so carmakers can fit it as standard.
Status: EyeQ6 Lite ships in volume; EyeQ6 High has 19M+ Surround ADAS units booked with VW and a US carmaker.

## Most important updates

- **23 Jul 2026**: Mobileye ships 10.0 million EyeQ systems in Q2 2026 and raises full-year guidance. Mobileye shipped 10.0 million EyeQ and SuperVision systems in the second quarter of 2026, up 3% from a year earlier, but the average system price fell to $48.5 from $49.7 because of higher China export volumes. - **5 Jan 2026**: US carmaker selects Mobileye EyeQ6 High for standard hands-free highway driving; 19M+ systems expected. An unnamed US-based top-10 automaker chose Mobileye's EyeQ6 High-based Surround ADAS, to be standard across its mainstream and premium models. - **25 Mar 2025**: Mobileye launches Surround ADAS on a single EyeQ6 High; Volkswagen is the first customer. Mobileye introduced Surround ADAS, a hands-off, eyes-on highway system that runs on one EyeQ6 High chip and one control unit, with Volkswagen as the first design win for volume models. - **17 Apr 2024**: Mobileye begins delivering EyeQ6 Lite chips for driver-assist systems launching in 2024. Mobileye delivered the first production-candidate hardware and software of its EyeQ6 Lite chip to carmakers, for driver-assist systems in vehicles launching that year. ## Current obstacles

- **Falling price per chip**: Q2 2026 average system price fell to $48.5 from $49.7 as cheaper China export volumes grew, offsetting a 3% rise in units.
- **Turning bookings into cars**: The 19M Surround ADAS units become revenue only as VW and the unnamed US carmaker launch models; no launch dates are public.

## Physics limits

- **Car chips live on a tight power and cost budget**: A chip that ships in tens of millions of cars must be cheap, cool itself passively and survive years of heat and vibration, which caps compute far below data-center chips.
- **Cameras infer depth rather than measure it**: A camera estimates distance from image cues; glare, fog or darkness can fool it, which is why higher automation levels add radar or lidar.

## How it works

### EyeQ6 Lite: One windscreen camera chip

Reads an 8-megapixel, 120-degree front camera for emergency braking and lane keeping, with 4.5x the compute of EyeQ4M at similar power.

### EyeQ6 High: One chip for the whole car

Fuses up to 11 cameras and radars for hands-free highway driving up to 130 km/h; two to four chips power SuperVision, Chauffeur and Drive.

### Design: Dedicated accelerators

Pairs a few CPU cores with fixed-purpose vision and neural accelerators instead of a big general GPU, trading flexibility for low cost and power.

### Maps: Crowdsourced road maps

Over 8 million cars send anonymised road data that maps nearly all US and European highways, so the car knows the lanes before it sees them.
