# Upside Foods and Wildtype sue Texas over its two-year ban on cultivated meat

Upside Foods and cultivated-salmon maker Wildtype filed a federal lawsuit against Texas's ban on selling cultivated meat, which took effect on September 1, 2025 for two years with fines of up to $25,000 a day. They argue it shields Texas ranchers from out-of-state competition; Upside said it had been in talks with Texas restaurants and a supermarket chain.
