Tesla's Powershare home backup, previously offered only on the Cybertruck, now works with the Model 3 and Model Y. The car's battery can power a house during a grid outage. Tesla guarantees the feature for new US and Puerto Rico cars ordered from October 1, 2026; other markets and older cars are not guaranteed.

## Key facts

- Needs a Powerwall 3 plus a Tesla or Universal Wall Connector; Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ support is 'coming soon'
- Owners with that equipment need no extra hardware but must contact Tesla support to switch the feature on
- Premium and Performance Model 3 and Model Y give over two days of backup for a home using 30 kWh a day; Standard trims give up to two days
- Maximum continuous output of 11.52 kW from the Powerwall setup
- Model 3 and Model Y still cannot send power back to the grid; Canada is not covered
