Rivian and Redwood Materials have expanded their deal so that Redwood now recycles battery scrap from Rivian's factory as well as packs retired from Rivian vehicles. Redwood collects the packs through Rivian's service network and decides whether each one goes to second-life storage or to recycling. The deal builds on an April agreement for a storage system at Rivian's Normal, Illinois plant.

## Key facts

- For returned packs, Redwood evaluates each one and sends it either to stationary storage, at Rivian sites or elsewhere, or straight to recycling once its storage life ends.
- The April partnership put a 10 MWh storage system at Rivian's Normal plant, built from more than 100 second-life packs.
- Redwood says its process recovers lithium, nickel, cobalt and copper at rates above 95%; this is the company's own claim and was not independently verified.
- No volumes, start date or financial terms were given for the new recycling work.
