A Navy MQ-4C Triton disappeared from flight tracking over the Persian Gulf in early April 2026, and the Naval Safety Command recorded it as a Class A mishap. The Navy and CENTCOM would not say whether it was shot down or failed. The loss hits a small fleet: 20 delivered as of 2025, 27 planned, and no FY27 purchase requested.

## Key facts

- Recorded as a Class A mishap; location withheld for operational security, no injuries
- Cause undisclosed: enemy fire or a mechanical failure
- A separate Class A mishap in December came from damage during maintenance
- The Pentagon's FY27 request asks for no more Tritons
