Stage: Deploy (4 of 5: Research → Proto → Pilot → Deploy → Scaling)
Updated: last update 2026-01-07, facts checked 2026-10-11
Goal: Make dental implants as precise as the plan on the scan. A drill a few degrees off can hit a nerve or sinus or leave a crooked tooth; robotic guidance aims to make accurate, minimally invasive implant surgery routine for general dentists.
Status: 100,000+ robot-guided osteotomies; second-generation Yomi S cleared and in first clinical use.
Next milestone: Yomi S roll-out to practices, target 2026

## Upcoming events

- **2026**: Yomi S roll-out to practices

## Most important updates

- **7 Jan 2026**: Neocis passes 100,000 robot-guided osteotomies with Yomi; first Yomi S cases done. Clinicians have completed more than 100,000 osteotomies (the bone holes drilled for implants) with Yomi, across single-tooth to full-arch cases. - **17 Nov 2025**: Neocis unveils Yomi S, a smaller FDA-cleared dental robot with AI planning. Neocis launched Yomi S, its second-generation robot, together with the YomiPlan AI planning suite, both FDA-cleared. - **15 Jan 2024**: Neocis raises $20M from NVIDIA's NVentures and Mirae Asset for the Yomi dental robot. Neocis raised $20 million from NVentures, NVIDIA's venture arm, and Seoul-based Mirae Asset Capital. ## Current obstacles

- **Fitting a dental office**: Yomi S shrinks the footprint and runs from one clinician's foot pedal and touchscreen to suit general practices, not just specialists.
- **Competing with cheap guides**: 3D-printed drill guides cost little per case; the robot must show better accuracy, flexibility or speed to justify its price.

## Physics limits

- **Bone is not uniform**: Jawbone density varies within millimetres, so a drill can deflect even along a perfect path; guidance controls the tool, not how bone responds.
- **The scan sets the ceiling**: Accuracy can be no better than the CT scan and its registration to the patient; scatter from metal fillings blurs exactly the areas near other teeth.

## How it works

### Plan: Implant placed on the 3D scan first

The dentist plans each implant on a cone-beam CT scan; YomiPlan AI outlines nerves and sinuses to steer clear of.

### Guide arm: Drill steered by touch

The drill works through the robot arm, which resists any motion off the planned position and angle, so the dentist feels the plan as a physical guide.

### Depth: Depth limited to the plan

The arm also constrains how deep the drill goes, protecting the nerve canal and sinus below and above the jaw.

### Mid-case changes: Plan can change during surgery

If what the dentist sees differs from the scan, the plan can be edited during the operation and the guidance follows the new plan.

## Spec sheet

Provenance: reported = stated by the company; estimated = our estimate; sample = a sample figure.

## About Neocis

Miami company, founded in 2009 by Alon Mozes and Juan Salcedo, that makes Yomi, the first FDA-cleared robot for dental implant surgery. Backed by Intuitive Ventures, NVIDIA's NVentures, Norwest and others.

- Yomi is the first and only FDA-cleared robot for dental implant surgery (2016); cleared for full-arch cases in 2020.
- Over 100,000 robot-guided implant drillings by January 2026.
- Yomi S (Nov 2025) adds AI planning that maps nerves and sinuses from the patient's 3D scan.
