Stage: Research (1 of 5: Research → Proto → Pilot → Deploy → Scaling)
Updated: last update 2026-10-06, facts checked 2026-10-15
Goal: Read the brain in real time without surgery. Implanted interfaces have reached about a hundred people; a non-invasive one could reach anyone.
Status: Out of stealth in Oct 2026; first human study enrolling in Redwood City, California.
Next milestone: First human research study

## Most important updates, last 3 months

- **6 Oct 2026**: Bridge Neurotech raises $13.5M for non-invasive ultrasound brain-computer interface. Bridge Neurotech launched its business with $13.5 million in seed funding to build a brain-computer interface using functional ultrasound imaging to read neural activity through the skull, avoiding surgical implantation. ## Current obstacles

- **Imaging through the intact skull**: Bone scatters and absorbs sound differently in every person; Bridge must correct for that to image without a skull window.

## How it works

### Ping: Ultrasound on a chip

A chip-based ultrasound array sends rapid sound pulses into the head and records the echoes.

### Detect: Blood flow shows activity

Busy brain areas draw more blood; functional ultrasound picks up those small blood-flow changes.

### Decode: AI reads the signal

Decoding models turn the brain images into intent or commands in real time.

## About Bridge Neurotech

Silicon Valley startup founded in 2026 by Will Biederman to build a brain-computer interface that needs no surgery: functional ultrasound reads brain activity through the skull and AI models decode it.
