## Technical approach

- **Hardware: Bosch cameras on the boom**: High-resolution cameras look ahead of each nozzle section and LED lights allow spraying around the clock.
- **Software: Weed detection in milliseconds**: AI tells weeds from soil and from crop plants, then opens only the nozzles above weeds.
- **Agronomy: BASF xarvio maps and advice**: Weed maps, as-applied records and herbicide recommendations come through BASF's xarvio platform.

## Open problems

- **Spot spraying alone leaves weeds** (partially solved): Trials found spot-spray-only programs the weediest; soil-residual herbicides are still needed.

- **16 Sep 2025**: University trials find ONE SMART SPRAY cuts herbicide costs in corn and soybean when paired with residual herbicides. Researchers led by Kansas State University tested the system in Kansas and Illinois in 2022–2023.
