Fluidstack, founded at Oxford University in 2017, builds and runs GPU clusters for AI labs. It is Anthropic's partner for a $50B US data-centre build-out and leases large campuses such as TeraWulf's Lake Mariner, backed by Google.

## In brief

- Builds Anthropic's custom data centres in Texas and New York, part of a $50B plan; first sites online during 2026.
- Raised $830M Series A at $7.5B in Jan 2026, led by Situational Awareness.
- Leases about 360 MW at Lake Mariner, NY; Google backstops $3.2B of the lease obligations.

## Facts

## Programs

- [Fluidstack AI cloud](https://technooptimist.io/computing/fluidstack-ai-cloud.md) (Computing): Scaling; next: Anthropic Texas and New York sites online (2026). 102 MW live at Lake Mariner (July 2026); Anthropic sites powering up through 2026.

## Technical approach

- **Prefab: Data centres built in a factory**: Facilities are assembled from prefabricated modules made in a factory, aiming to cut build times from several years to about six months.
- **Power: Securing power first**: It helps customers find and contract power, often at converted bitcoin-mining sites with grid connections already in place.
- **Software: Cluster management**: Runs the clusters after construction with its own management platform; observability and alerting tools are in development.

## Open problems

- **Delivering on schedule** (open): Gigawatt promises depend on partners' buildings and power; at Lake Mariner the newest building slipped from H2 2026 to early 2027.
- **Concentrated customers** (open): Much of its growth rides on a few frontier labs, above all Anthropic.

## Latest updates
