Canonical page: https://technooptimist.io/companies/elveo-mobile
Satellite-to-phone operator formed in August 2026 when Lynk Global merged with Omnispace. It combines Lynk's small 'cell tower in space' satellites with Omnispace's S-band spectrum, backed by SES. Based near Washington, DC.

## In brief

- Lynk (founded 2017) sent the first satellite-to-phone text in 2020; merged with Omnispace as Elveo in Aug 2026.
- Owns rights to 60 MHz of S-band spectrum; 9 satellites in orbit, plans 320 low-orbit satellites.
- 56 contracts with mobile operators and partners in 60+ countries; SES is a major shareholder.

## Facts

- Headquarters: US
- Status: private
- Staff: ~150

## Programs

- [Elveo direct-to-phone network (Lynk)](https://technooptimist.io/spaceflight/elveo-d2d.md) (Spaceflight): Pilot; next: Raise capital and line up satellite manufacturing. Nine satellites in orbit; new satellites to deploy from Q4 2027, services scaling to 2028.

## Technical approach

- **Cell tower in space: Works with ordinary phones**: Satellites speak standard 2G/4G/5G and 3GPP satellite protocols, so unmodified phones and IoT devices connect as if to a tower.
- **Own spectrum: S-band rights**: Omnispace brought 60 MHz of globally coordinated S-band (3GPP bands n255/n256); operators' own frequencies can be used too.
- **Multi-orbit: SES ground and relay network**: SES provides ground infrastructure that routes traffic between low orbit, medium orbit and the ground.

## Open problems

- **Capital for 320 satellites** (open): The company still has to raise the money to build and launch its planned constellation.
- **Competing with giants** (open): AST SpaceMobile and SpaceX's Starlink Mobile are building far larger direct-to-phone networks.

## Upcoming

- **Q4 2027**: Elveo begins deploying new satellites (Elveo direct-to-phone network (Lynk))
