Toronto-based recycler founded in 2021 that pulls rare-earth magnets out of scrapped electronics, motors and factory waste and refines them back into rare-earth oxides, with sites in Ontario, Arizona and South Carolina.

## In brief

- Opened a 25,000 t/yr magnet-recovery plant in Mesa, Arizona in September 2026.
- Raised two US$75M rounds in 2026, led by T. Rowe Price-advised accounts; US$237M equity in total.
- Building an $82M+ South Carolina campus that will also recycle VACUUMSCHMELZE's magnet factory scrap.

## Facts

## Programs

- [Hub-and-spoke magnet recycling](https://technooptimist.io/materials/magnet-recycling-network.md) (Materials): Deploy; next: Groundbreaking of South Carolina campus (Q4 2026). Mesa, Arizona spoke open since Sep 2026 (25,000 t/yr scrap); South Carolina campus due in 2028.

## Technical approach

- **Spoke: MagCycle magnet recovery**: Automated shredding and sorting separate magnet material from steel, copper and aluminium without hand dismantling.
- **Hub: REEPure refining**: Hydrometallurgy dissolves the magnet material and recovers mixed rare-earth oxides; solvent extraction then yields NdPr, Tb and Dy.

## Open problems

- **Collecting scattered scrap** (active research): Magnets sit in small amounts inside many products that are not recycled for their rare earths today, so volume depends on building a feedstock network.
